Dr. Folakemi Ogungbe
Senior Lecturer
Dr. Folakemi Ogungbe is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Film and Multimedia at the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University. She holds a BA, MA, and PhD in Theatre and Media Arts from the University of Ibadan. She joined the School as adjunct faculty in 2022 and transitioned to a full-time role in 2023. In 2025, she was named a Fellow of the University of Michigan African Scholars Program.
Dr. Ogungbe’s career spans academia, industry, and creative practice. She served as Head of the Digital Media Unit and Technical Assistant to the Managing Director/Chief Executive at the Nigerian Film Corporation from 2020 to 2023. During this time, she also lectured at the National Film Institute and NTA TV College, Jos. She played key roles in organizing and curating digital media coverage for the Zuma Film Festival from 2019 to 2023.
Her scholarly and creative work engages film production, media arts, and sustainable creative economies. She was the Creative Partnerships Coordinator for the African Hub for Sustainable Creative Economies (AHSCE), Lagos Hub, a research collaboration with King’s College London and universities across Africa. As a filmmaker, she co-wrote, directed, and produced Mirrors (2025), a six-part serial for SMC PAU, and wrote and directed Yayi: A Shining Light (2022), a documentary for the Nigerian Film Corporation.
Dr. Ogungbe is widely engaged in the film and academic communities. She serves on the editorial board of Fulgent: Journal of Film and Video and has been a jury member for the Kano Indigenous Language Film Festival, the Travelling International Students Film Festival, the Sacramento Film Festival, and the AM-FM Film Festival in Manitoba. She is also an elected member of the Awards Committee of the Lagos Studies Association (2024–2029) and an EXCO member of the association.
Her research has been published in Industry and Higher Education, Journal of African Film and Diaspora Studies, Fulgent, and various book chapters. At PAU, she also advises the Drama Club and is committed to mentoring students through both scholarship and storytelling.
Guided by empathy, a love for learning, and a spirit of service, Dr. Ogungbe enjoys travelling, reading fiction, and exploring music in her free time.
